Our Basement in Progress....

This has been our focus the past month or so, and has been consuming a great deal of our time. It has definately put a cramp in my style as I must stay at home all day to let people in and out of house as they work away. I am going to post some pictures of the progress. If you compare it to the ones I posted a few weeks ago, I think you should be much impressed.

This is our T.V room.

This is the spare room. I love the colour... but I can't decided whether or not I want to keep it. This is just the primer.

Lastly this is Cali's play room. I had a play room as a kid and just loved it. So this is hers.

I Got My Dresser!

Today I got my dresser! I am so excited!!! I have been using the same dresser since we lived in Hilden. Needless to say it no longer fit my clothes. Also it wasn't finished around the edges of the drawers so it would often catch my clothing and tear it. I am so happy!!! So I filled it up with all of my clothes and half of Ed's. This is great, all I need now is a finished basement. Getting closer...

I found the dresser at Faveri's in Calgary. You pick the furniture and they finish is any way you like, and I love it!!! I just need to save up for the matching bed and side tables.

I do have an observation about renos I would like to share. It reminds me a dating again. You know staying home waiting for phone calls that don't come, waiting at home for people to arrive that don't show... and they always have a good excuse. Too many memories are coming back.... Oh I don't miss those days one bit! I also won't miss these days once they are gone as well.

So I ventured down to the basement and took some pictures of the progress. I am really excited to have the extra space!!!!

This is one of the bedrooms. I plan on this being Cali's playroom until she is old enough to move down to the basement.

This is the family room where Ed can have his big screen tv and his video games.

The guys are coming in this week to put up the drywall and crackfilling. So having basement finshed it feeling real! In other news Cali went potty today all by herself... but I still think being fully trained is a ways away....

March Already!

I took Cali to her friend Meghan's birthday party today. It was at a local gymnastics club. Cali had a great time running around on the foam and jumping on the trampolines. Some time has past since her Jolly Jumper days but she got back into the swing quickly.



I can't believe that it is March already, so that means spring should be just around the corner, right? Not here, today we got a huge dump of snow. I think that this has been my snowiest winter in Alberta. I don't believe a week has passed without a snowfall. This is all fine as it covers the dead brown Alberta landscape, however I am not to used to driving in the snow. I got stuck on my street about a month ago as they don't plow in southern Alberta, instead they wait for a Chinook to blow in and melt it all. In the meantime the roads get quite nasty. I will give them credit for plowing the main streets and highways but other than you are out of luck.

Ed competed in a badminton tournament this weekend. His team made it to semi-finals. I think that's pretty good considering his age... just kidding!



We are working away at the basement. Hoping to get it finished before Ed's brother Darryl comes to visit for Easter. Right now we are living completely on the upstairs level. It's a mess we have furniture and boxes shoved in every corner of the house. There is no room to "pay" as Cali says. I can't wait to get it completed then I can set up her kitchen and slide. It's going to awesome. I will have to post pictures of the progress when I get a chance.

My First Contribution to the Yu Household Blog

So this is my first contribution to the blog. Life has been very fast since we got married. Cali is well on her way to being two and I wonder where I was during all of this. Not that I've been absent, but little children grow up so fast; I can understand why some people say they miss it. Cali has been our entertainment over the last few years. She makes us laugh and makes us cry and sometimes both simultaneously. It certainly doesn't tickle when she opens our eyes while we are sleeping. :)

Cali does provide good entertainment from showing us new words to singing and taking care of her dolls so very well. She is very innovative, using baby facecloths as bedtime blankets for the two twin dolls in her care. She is quite the caretaker as well, willing to take the kleenex to unexplored regions up the dolls' nasal cavities. So needless to say, we haven't gone out for much entertainment; Cali provides quite a lot.

I'm continuing to teach all different subjects. I'm working on writing assessments that will be good indicators of progress so that will take a bit of time. It is sometimes depressing that the 4 or 5 hours I spend writing a good test, is written in 60 minutes and sometimes with little effort by the students. It makes me very relunctant to allow them to retest.

The basement has probably been a topic of discussion but we will leave that for another day...likewise for the basement...
